featured-forum

After much tweaking and css-ing, I’m excited to announce that Boardsapiens forum is now up and running. The forum’s objective is simple, to gather all board riders especially in Malaysia to share the passion, stories, experiences and every little bits and bites in one neat platform. My greatest hope is to see this forum to be utilised to its full potential and hopefully helps to grow more members into the sports that we love – board riding!

So get busy, and start inviting your friends, cousins, relatives, dad, mom and everyone you know to this forum! :)

GO TO THE FORUM NOW!

p/s: Anyone interested to be moderators are also gratefully invited, obviously I don’t have all the time in the world to manage a forum all by myself! Every little help is highly appreciated.

Rainy April, Gusty May

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

sw2With June waiting around the corner, we are now already two months past the monsoon season since it ended in the late of March. April and May have two things in common ; 1- Baking hot weather, 2- Wet afternoon till morning. April saw almost 3 windless weeks, totally flat water which is only good for everything except windsurfing or kitesurfing.

Next few weeks were better, but with nothing extravagant to be too proud of either. With an 8.4m sail and a 155l board, I occasionally get to plane on at least 2-3 days of the week. Sometimes I get to use my 7.4m and the 111l iSonic but feeling underpowered with winds barely 15 knots max is not really that fun.

Nice thing to mention is that some days when it’s really low tide, the waves can quite chunky providing nice ramps for jumping and surfing on the way back. Be warned though, as it can be quite a pain to waterstart in those breaks as the wind is not really that strong! continue reading...

Speaking of The Devil

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The thunderstorms that I saw in a distance from my house at around 5pm today managed to sweep off a few roofs in Balok. Here’s the breaking news from Bernama;

STORM DAMAGES MORE THAN 30 HOUSES IN BALOK PERDANA

KUANTAN, April 19 (Bernama) — A storm lashed through the Balok Perdana residential area here today, leaving a trail of destruction, including 30 damaged houses.

A resident there, Mohd Amran A. Hamid, 45, said it happened at about 4pm while he and his wife and their five children were in their house, which they occupied only about four months ago.

“We could do nothing, but prayed in the house, and then saw the roofs of our neighbour’s houses ripped and blown away,” he added.

Mohd Fikri Azri Md Saat, 24, said his rented house was badly damaged and also were most of his electrical appliances.

Meanwhile, Balok Perdana Rukun Tetangga chairman, Osman Abdullah, said he would request for assistance under the disaster for residents affected by the storm.

Incoming Strong Winds, Rough Seas

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The government’s official Marine Meteorological Forecast for fisherman predicted strong Westerly winds reaching up to 50km/h (about 27 knots) hitting the East Coast particularly Terengganu & Kelantan in the next few days, starting Tuesday up until Thursday. Kuantan, Pahang was not listed under the predicated shore but we may have have good chance as Balok is conveniently the nearest shore to Terengganu & Kelantan.

Here’s a brief preview of the said forecast;

Tuesday 21/04/2009

Morning: Cloudy
Afternoon: Weather fair
Night: Weather fair
Wind: W 40-50 km/hr
Wave Height: 2.5-3.5 m. Dangerous to small craft.

And here’s the full forecast for your viewing.

The wind as of today is still very light, probably 10 knots max in the gust, with mild rain occasionally late in the afternoon. Nothing much to report as you can see..

Well anyway, good luck & happy surfing!

SW Wind Has Finally Arrived ( Again )

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

After its appearance a few weeks ago, followed by a surprise NE revisit, we can finally settled on the fact that NE monsoon is over and SW wind is here. Our friend in Vietnam reported light wind in Mui Ne, and the Singaporean had a taste of the Sumatra Squall yesterday morning – overpowered on 5m!

As for Balok, we had nothing but constant heavy rains to report for the past few days. The wind that comes with the rain somehow, is blowing real hard, and probably enough for a 6.0m sail to plane.

Be assured, that the rain will eventually go away, and leave us with some ‘real’ wind to play with. Hang loose!
