Hej,

I'm going to Malaysia in about 2-4 weeks to stay in KL for next year (work assignment). I thought in would be a nice place to windsurf in here (since it's in the middle of two big oceans), but according to windguru there is no (serious) wind in Malaysia :( I’ve planned to brought my 93L board with 4.5 / 5.3 sails - but now I'm thinking more like 123L board and 6.6 + 8.0 sails....
Did you already windsurf in Malaysia - how is it? Is there a real wind in there or at least close enough for a weekend flight?

I've learned surfing being in Hawaii once, so surfing is OK for me too if there are at least 4-5 feet waves somewhere. What are your experiences in terms of wind & wave conditions in there?

Hi Wojtek

We have two monsoon seasons here, the NE monsoon (Nov-March) & SW monsoon (Jun-Aug). Windier season is during NE monsoon which we are currently having right now, and the best place to windsurf is on the East Coast at a spot called Balok beach. Wind range typically varies from 15-18knots & occasionally up to 25-30knots.

Apparently your 123l board & 6.6-8.0m sails will be more suitable here.

Windguru in my opinion is not really that accurate for the wind condition here. Try our goverment's fisherman forecast - http://www.met.gov.my/index.php?option= ... ng=english
Pick "Pahang" in the drop down menu for location.

For surfing try http://surfingmalaysia.blogspot.com/ or http://www.bfikt.com/
The surf communities here are quite active and they organized a number of local & international events, especially in the monsoon season. Here is an example of the wave in Cherating (a local spot near Balok)

you might also try Prot Dickson, not much Wind, but you can go to the windsurfcenter there.
