Punishing Mee Kari

mee-kariIt all started around 1pm when the sea looks dead calm, with a few spots of white caps in a far distance. Being the usual loyal & positive-minded that I was, I sat around with another windsurf newbie waiting for a little more wind for the 8.4m rig. About half an hour later, the wind started to pick up quickly. With no traces of storms in range whatsoever, this is a good sign for pure sea breeze coming our way from the SW. When the white caps turned into dozens of wave breaks, and the trees start whistling & dancing beautifully, it’s time to hit the water.

Like every other day for the past few weeks, I wasn’t really that impressed nor excited. Therefore that medium sized sail looks like a good choice at first. And that was before I struggled to hold it in the gusts of wind with the unforgiving chops that make life’s a bronco ride. Towards the evening, the wind grows even bigger making the ride more exhilarating yet exhausting. It almost looks like a classic NE monsoon day, only that it happens in June!

It’s been a while since I had to finish early and said no to good winds for whatever reason, but yesterday my body just can no longer cope with all that energy draining condition & setup. Maybe it was just me getting out of shape, or maybe it’s just that awaiting punishment for all too many Old Town’s mee kari I’ve been having lately. Either way, the forecast has been showing some promising numbers for the past few days, and I’m just here to confirm that!
